May 23rd., Wantagh, NY Nikon at, Jones Beach Theater.
Cold and rainy weather when Barry did his open air concert in Wantagh. However with his performance he brought sunshine to all the fans. A little sad was the fact that Barry had to tell the audience he’d perform that night without his niece Sam who had fallen ill and was in hospital for some tests. A disappointment for the audience of course.

The weather was too bad in New York for Barry to spend a lot of time with the fans at rehearsals but his son Steve represented Barry and the family very well!!

Hello Marion, first of all I´d like to thank you again from all my heart for all your efforts involving the management tickets & Sound Check passes of Barry US Tour. I´m a fan of The Bee Gees for more than 30 years now (I know, it doesn´t sound that much, compared to others… 🙂 ) and my wife and I, we were very lucky to be able to get management tickets (2nd row, middle) for the show in New York (Wantagh) and also got the Sound Check tickets, so it´s like a dream came true – Thanks to YOU. 🙂 Now here is a short review of the Sound Check in Wantagh, NY: As we arrived for Sound Check in the afternoon before the concert, we met several fans from all around the world gathering at the entrance (from Hong Kong, Japan, and of course quiet a group from Germany – Anne and Detlef for example, they were so nice to us – we were able to get hold 2 of their legendary Bee-Gees-scarfs). It was nice takling to other (crazy) Bee Gees Fans. 🙂 We also saw Beverly, who was in charge of Sound Check. She way very nice and handled everything in a very professional and courteous way. Sadly, the weather was rather bad on Show Day in New York, cold winds and rainy. The venue “Nikon at Jones Beach” is situated directly at the water, so the winds were rather strong that afternoon.
And just minutes before Sound Check was scheduled to begin, a rather heavy rain started. So at Sound Check we were given seats directly on the Stage (on the right side), rather than before it, so we got a “Backstage”-feel, which was very nice. First Stephen and the Band came on stage testing some sounds and then Barry came and performed parts of Jive Talkin and You Should Be Dancing. It was very cool to see him from this “Backstage”-perspective. After Sound Check we heard from Beverly, that Barry had apologized that he can´t come out to greet us, as he usually does, because of the cold weather, so he didn´t want to risk getting ill in the middle of the tour. We respect that of course – I suppose some dreams meant to stay dreams – perhaps I will meet Barry in person some day. I won´t give up that hope… 😉 Instead Barry´s son Stephen was so nice, he took the time to come out and greet us. He signed a photo which I made of Stephen & me last year, a day after the Dublin concert. We met him then – purely by coincidence – in the St.Patricks Cathedral. And he wasn´t there just for sightseeing. I saw him praying deep and faithfully for almost 10-15 minutes. Afterwards he was so kind to pose for a photo and talked to us. He is really a down-to-earth noble person – like all the members of the Gibb family – and treated us fans very kindly. The concert itself was of course absolutely awesome – remember our seats were incredible (2nd row) – so every minute of it was well worth the trip from Austria. I don´t want to write a review in detail because there are several very well written reviews already on the internet.

Barry really was enjoying himself in Chicago, he looked very relaxed. A pity that Sam wasn’t able again to be there due to an illness. She’s healing well and hopes to be there again on the West Coast. Whereever Barry goes during this US tour: the crowd loves him and he loves to be there and sing for his audience. Although the difficult and emotional moments and being on stage without his brothers: Barry loves to perform again.

The concert last night in Chicago was amazing! What a wonderful tribute to The Brothers! Was especially moved with “I Started A Joke” and Robin singing down from heaven…so touching… Times Media Barry Gibb shares memories, music in Chicago show
Last night’s show was phenomenal. Thirty years ago in the fall of 1984, I saw Michael Jackson with his brothers for their Victory Tour in Chicago at the former Comiskey Park. Thriller was still going strong, and MJ was my idol. My girlfriend’s Mom bought us two tickets- they were both $50 each at the time and that was a lot of money back in the 80’s. We took the shuttle bus from our small town in Wisconsin down to the show- and it was a night to remember! Flash forward to last night- I’m 45 now instead of a teenager, but I felt like I was 15 again! As soon as my husband and I parked we saw the United Center aglow with red- as I mentioned in a picture I just submitted it looked so beautiful against the western sky after a rainy afternoon. I knew then that something special was about to happen. Both my husband and I worked all day and were caught in lousy rush-hour traffic, but we made it to see half of Jared and the Mill- they were great! There was a small lull then the show began with a wonderful song
Barry singing “Technicolor Dreams” which was the PERFECT way to get the crowd in the mood! I won’t get into the entire setlist as anybody can look that up themselves but some of the best songs by far were “Lonely Days”, “New York Mining Disaster”, How Can You Mend a Broken Heart, Spicks & Specks, In the Morning (perhaps the highlight of the show), Guilty (Beth Cohen was awesome), One, To Love Somebody, Run to Me, and “Words”. Of course Nights on Broadway was my personal favorite and Barry delivered like the 1975 Midnight Special. Lastly, the sound quality was the best I’ve ever heard at any concert in my life- the band is tight. It transcended anything I’ve ever heard in a live performance- it was almost as if I was in another state of consciousness. The lighting helped enhance the mood, and the selection of songs in their order were perfect. The only song I missed was “Fanny Be Tender” and a couple of others, but we listened to them on the way home! All in all- it was a stunning performance! As I wrote on the Mythology page last night, my husband and I have been to many, many shows over the years. He told me that he’s never heard a better sound quality EVER, and that includes seeing Pink Floyd, Rush, Taylor Swift, MJ, Neil Young, and dozens upon dozens of shows. He kept saying “this band is unreal!”
