Poem's stories and comments

For Maurice:

How can I put into words what you have meant to me? I am a fan of so much more than your music. Over the years I have learned something about you and your brothers as people. And those people have gained my admiration and respect. To me the Bee Gees (Andy included) are four kind hearted, generous men who have a very deep love of family and a desire to try to make the world a better place in any way they can. And you have made the world a better place. You have fed starving children, contributed to cures for disease, helped rebuild communities devastated by natural disasters, conquered personal demons, and filled the world with magical music. In my eyes, it is very fitting that you were given the title of Commander of the British Empire because each of you embodies the characteristics of the “Knight in Shining Armour.” I would have considered it an honor if I could have known you and counted you among my friends. For most of my life I have laughed at your silliness, been touched by the emotion in your music, felt pride at your accomplishments, and defended you against critical attack. So I suppose it is no wonder that I feel such a sense of loss at your passing. But through the sadness I see the legacy you left behind. You will live forever in the music you created and in the joy that music gives. But you also left a part of that kind gentle spirit in the heart of everyone lucky enough to know you. And even though I didn’t have that honor, I know my life is richer because of you. So I thank you for all the music, all the laughter, and all the memories. You will have a place in my heart forever.
