The Nation’s Favourite Bee Gees song
In a spectacular career spanning five decades The Bee Gees have recorded dozens of chart successes as well as writing and producing major hits for many other artistes making them one of the most successful bands of all time. From Massachusetts to You Win Again, Words to Chain Reaction, the Gibb Brothers have created an unrivalled volume of hit records around the world recorded not just by themselves but by other legendary performers too including Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. But just what is the greatest Bee Gees song ever? This one-off special celebrates – and tell the stories behind – some of the best-loved songs in music history as it asks the British public to vote for The Nation’s Favourite Bee Gees Song. The 90 minute special includes brand new interviews with Robin and Barry Gibb, revealing the fascinating story behind their music which helped to make these giants of the pop world one of the most prolific song writing outfits of our time. This insight into the fortunes of the band throughout their incredible career includes rare archive footage of an alternative version of Staying Alive made in 1977 which has never been released, as well as new interviews and contributions from band members and people who helped bring them worldwide success, plus new interviews with celebrity fans including Elton John, Cliff Richard, Beverley Knight, Sharleen Spiteri, Sir Tim Rice and Dave Grohl. This unique programme charts the Bee Gees’ hits in the late 60’s through to the phenomenal disco crossover success of Saturday Night Fever which brought the band further international stardom and chart domination. After a brief hiatus they returned and reinvented themselves again with number one hits that included You Win Again, beginning another phase of Bee Gees’ history where their singles and albums topped the charts worldwide.

The final list of 20 classics has been compiled with the help of a panel of Bee Gees experts and includes Chain Reaction, Guilty, How Can You Mend A Broken Heart, How Deep Is Your Love, Immortality, I’ve Gotta Get A Message To You, Islands In The Stream, Jive Talkin’, Massachusetts, More Than A Woman, Night Fever, Nights On Broadway, Run To Me, Stayin’ Alive, To Love Somebody, Too Much Heaven, Tragedy, Words, You Should Be Dancing and You Win Again The public decided the final countdown of the Bee Gees top 20 by voting on ITV.com’s Bee Gees mini-site last month.
(ITV press release, the program will be aired December 9th)

That’s why the postponement was such a short notice. The doctors have, however, decided that to travel to another country and perform a full concert might be too much for Robin at this stage. ‘At the meeting on 24th February, the Bomber Command Memorial Board was able to agree to proceed to contract for the construction of the Memorial. This is a momentous step forward and one which has been made possible through the drive of our President Robin Gibb; the support of The Heritage Foundation, the sustained work of “our duo” at the RAF Museum, the professionalism of the architect and sculptor and importantly, the sheer energy of the fundraising team and our many supporters. The necessary pre-contract discussions will probably take a further month and once complete we will be able to announce the precise date for the Unveiling and Dedication Ceremony which we intend to be in May 2012. our President Robin Gibb will attend a short and discrete “Turf Cutting” Ceremony, probably in May 2011. This will define the start of building works’.

Robin Gibb about Titanic and Bee Gees news
Robin talks about the Titanic project he’s doing with son Robin John and about some ‘very big’ Bee Gees news the coming months. Robin is negotiating with major record labels to release his first classical record, which will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic next April. Recorded with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, it is set to complete next month at Air Studios in North London. Through the medium of music, the record tells the story of the illfated passenger liner from its launch to its sinking with the loss of 1,517 lives in 1912. Robin also asserted there would be some “very big” Bee Gees news in coming months for 2012 adding, “You don’t get ideas to schedule, but yes I am tremendously excited about the future. When you have got one of the most successful catalogues in the world today, with (Gibb brother) Barry, you get excited, but get to cherry pick!” Read more: www.musicweek.com

No Brazilian Concerts At The Moment
Although Robin Gibb has recovered from the severe stomach pains he suffered in the early hours of Sunday, 3rdApril, as a result of recent hospital tests carried out on him he has been strongly advised to remain in England for his condition to be further investigated and to undergo any necessary treatment. As a result it unfortunately means that although Robin had hoped to travel to Brazil in the immediate future to perform at the remaining concerts and any re-arranged dates, this will not now be feasible. Rather than suggest specific dates at this stage, and run the risk of disappointing fans again, Robin prefers to wait until he receives clearance from his medical advisers to undertake an overseas tour. Robin can then fix new dates when Robin, the Promoters and the fans can be confident that he will be able to fulfil them. Other performances which have been announced and which are in Europe and, therefore, only a short distance from England are at this stage remaining on the calendar, since none of them is imminent and it is hoped Robin will be fully fit and able to undertake them.

We have teamed up with Raileasy – the discount rail booking website – and Rhino Records to give away this money-can’t-buy prize. It’s all to celebrate The Bee Gees’ 50 years in the music business. This week is in memory of Mo.
It’s been 8 years now since he left us here but he’s not gone. He’s still in our hearts and in all the wonderful music he created.
Thanks.

Saturday Night Fever (1977) Produced long after the heyday of classic Hollywood musicals, this cinematic cultural touchstone incorporated set-piece music and dance numbers into a story of dramatic realism. With its success, “Saturday Night Fever” proved that the American movie musical could be reinvented. The film’s soundtrack, featuring hits by the Bee Gees and others, sold millions of copies and gave musical life to a movie significant for much more than just its celebration of the mid-70s disco phenomenon. www.loc.gov
