 Former Gibb home destroyed ?
     Confusing stories today!

Early on Friday at around 4.15am. a fire broke out at the old weatherboard house in Tramore Street at Margate. It partially destroyed the bedroom. Neighbour Marion Lean said the Brothers Gibb obviously had a soft spot for this old place. “I think it was the last place they lived in before they went back to England.”

However:
It seems media reports are wrong. The reports of December 28th. telling about a fire at the former BG home seem to be incorrect. Media showed the wrong house in Tramore Street but according to the family they didn’t live in Tramore Street but Oxley Ave. Margate. The old Gibb Home seems to be okay.

Bomber Command Memorial
Just four months after being formally unveiled by the Queen the classical memorial in London’s Green Park is drawing a steady flow of visitors from around the world. The memorial commemorates the 55,573 volunteers of Bomber Command who died taking the war to Hitler. Bomber Command suffered the heaviest casualties of any British unit in the Second World War, with nearly half its men lost. But the crews were denied their own medal or memorial after the war as politicians tried to distance themselves form the controversial campaign. So veterans, by now in their 80s, got together about four years ago and decided to build their own memorial. They were backed by Bee Gee Robin Gibb, who died just before the unveiling, and fellow pop star Jim Dooley of The Dooleys. Mr Dooley: “Robin and I wanted an interactive memorial where you could go inside and recapture the atmosphere of a crew returning from a raid with all the emotions they endured. Visiting the memorial is certainly a moving experience.”

Spotlight On The Bee Gees
New album with Bee Gees cover songs Band: Arch Embassy, Release Date: June 15 – 2012, Label: Stereographic Entertainment

The Bee Gees have made some of the most timeless records ever, from “Stayin’ Alive” to “How Deep Is Your Love”. L.A. based band, Arch Embassy, has taken a few of those classic songs and added their unique modern-pop twist to create a set of new recordings that bring a fresh perspective to some of the most amazing Bee Gees songs. Singer and keyboard player Justin Avery, has a sensational vocal range and tone that combines the best sounds of Prince, Jamiroquai, Queen and of course the signature Bee Gees blend. He showcases his vocal abilities while still delivering the true emotion of each song. The band also features Joe Ayoub on bass, Brett Farkas on guitar, and Jevin Hunter on the drums, who combine to create an impossibly tight groove. One of the standout tracks is the duet “Guilty”, originally performed by Barbra Streisand and Barry Gibb. On this version, Avery is joined by vocalist Mapuana Makia. The two blend together effortlessly, playing off the energy of each other to create an incredibly powerful and sensual duet performance. The EP pays tribute to the vibe of the original recordings, but has some great surprises and modern elements that will be sure to keep this record on repeat.

John Merchant, musical engineer for The Gibbs, about Robin’s death
John began at Middle Ear as an intern in 1988, and through 2004 worked on many late-career Bee Gees albums, including “One,” “Size Isn’t Everything,” several live recordings and projects produced by the brothers for the likes of Celine Dion, Michael Jackson, Barbra Streisand. John Merchant had spoken frequently in the last several weeks with Barry, whom he described as “very sad but realistic.” Their last conversation, on Saturday, hours before Robin’s death, kept to a more upbeat focus: production work on a recording of Barry’s February concert at the Hard Rock in Hollywood, his first solo concert ever and a show Merchant called “amazing.” http://weblogs.sun-sentinel.com

The Roxborogh Report about Robin’s death
No other act has had to fight as hard for their legacy than the Bee Gees, but it was worth the fight and in my mind, informed some of the pathos (not to mention innovation) that is at the heart of the best Gibb songs. http://roxboroghreport.blogspot.co.nz Here is the song which many Bee Gees fans feel is the finest work they released in the 90s. So much of what makes the Bee Gees great is to the fore: An unforgettable title; a massive chorus, with unusual verse and bridge structures; Barry singing in both falsetto and natural voice; three part background harmonies topped with a powerful Robin lead. And unlike the parody Meaningless Songs In Very High Voices, this song really does means something:

When the lonely heart breaks
It’s the one that forsakes
It’s the dream that we stole
And I’m missing you more
And the fire that will roar
There’s a hole in my soul
For you it’s goodbye
And for me it’s to cry
For Whom The Bell Tolls

Message from Spencer Gibb’s official website
Fans, Friends, and Family…
On behalf of Spencer, I would first like to thank everyone for all of the love and support that has been given, for both the music and the man. It has neither gone un-noticed nor un-appreciated. Lately, it has been no secret that Spencer’s father, Robin, has been ill. Spencer has been at the side of his father and his family and will remain so for as long as he is needed. I, along with the Gibb family, would like to extend many thanks for every concern that has been shared and conveyed. Nothing we have or will do is worth a thing without the love and appreciation of our fans. At this point however, it is at the request of Spencer that fans of the Gibb family direct their concerns, questions and comments to their official and professional websites and/or pages. Please allow the family their privacy and respect as they deal with this very challenging situation. It is also at the request of Spencer that I convey the forward momentum of his UK campaign. In true Gibb form, the show will go on. There are many great things slated for the near future; as the response to Spencer’s music has been both promising and unanimous.
On behalf of Spencer Gibb and his family, who have given so much to so many for so long,
I thank you all.
Respectfully,
Aaron Frescas

In addition to other displays, a portion of the brick wall from Cash’s Hendersonville home, will be on display as well. It was made possible with the help of Barry Gibb.

The Jacobsen family on ABC (Australia)
The Jacobsen family were one of Australia’s most successful music industry operations spanning decades but after 50 years in the biz fell apart. Brothers Kevin and Colin Jacobsen (Col Joye), along with their brother Keith started out in the band Col Joye and the Joy Boys in 1959. They were one of Australia’s biggest pop acts that year. In 1965, Kevin, Col and Tony Brady formed ATA Allstar Artists and started to manage the stars of the day including Little Patti and Sandy Shaw. Kevin signed ATA for distribution by Festival Records. Dwina Gibb misses Robin

Robin with Dwina and son RJ in Downing Street in 2009

Robin’s widow Dwina only needs to turn on the radio to hear her husband. She still makes him tea and listens to his music on the radio. Dwina Gibb tells about her life without her husband Robin. “In the evenings we spent a lot of time talking, and I miss that,’ she says” “When I find things like his hospital bracelets, things of suffering, it’s really hard.” Robin’s brother Barry, who was also a Bee Gee, is suffering deeply too, she reveals. “Robin’s death has hit Barry incredibly hard,’ says Dwina. He has now seen three brothers die, and has very, very dark days.” “He just retreats into himself and tries to get through it. I worry about him.” Next spring Dwina is hoping to hold a star-studded memorial concert, and is confident John Travolta, Elton John and Barbra Streisand will be involved.

Tour is therapy for Barry Gibb
Barry Gibb laughs. He doesn’t care that his audience for his forthcoming Mission concert, part of his first tour as the sole surviving Bee Gee, will probably be there as much for a boozy good time as to hear a tribute to the group’s vast pop legacy and his late brothers. “We’ve played to every single kind of audience you can imagine,” he told the Herald from his Miami home yesterday. “So there isn’t an audience that strikes any fear in our heart at all. “We’ve worked in places where people were having fights and people were sitting down at tables because they couldn’t get up. “So once you’ve seen that, you’ve seen it all, mate.”

Triumph and tragedy for Barry Gibb
If there was one song in a 50-year career that could be the undoing of Barry Gibb during his world tour next year, it would be How Can You Mend A Broken Heart. “It’s hard to avoid those emotions coming into the music,” the last remaining Bee Gee says quietly. “That song and the Last Dance – most of the time any emotion in a song is an abstract feeling. It’s like a mini-film in your mind. It’s fictional.” The acute and very real emotion he refers to is the enduring grief he struggles to overcome after losing his three brothers Andy, Maurice and, most recently, Robin. The eldest of the Gibb clan, with sister Lesley, who still lives in Australia, and his mother Barbara sharing the family tragedy, was determined to start next year’s Mythology tour here. Barry says the surviving brothers had planned to return to the stage before Robin fell seriously ill. “I want to make this a celebration of my brothers and my family, especially for mum. “She has felt the pain more than anyone, to lose three sons.”

Blue Plaque for Robin Gibb
As earlier announced The Heritage Foundation and Thame Borough Council is to unveil the plaque near the Gibbs residence in Thame. Heritage Foundation chairman David Graham said of Robin Gibb: “He was so down to earth and normal and really enthusiastic. It’s a personal thing for me. He was a great bloke to get on with and I owe him a great deal and so do a lot of people in the country. He was a great songwriter and performer. We wouldn’t have normally have done it this early, it is one of our quickest plaques, but it’s a chance for the fans who are coming from all over the world. The measure of a man’s life is what he has achieved. Robin has achieved so much in life it was immeasurable.” The unveiling will be followed by a celebratory ticket-only garden party, which members of the public can attend, at the home Robin shared with his family in Thame on Sunday, September 30. Robin’s wife Dwina said: “It is so well-deserved. We still have lots of people coming to the house. Last week a man in uniform went up to the house. He took his cap off to pay his respects and then off he went. A lot of people seem to be using Robin’s grave as a bit of a letterbox to me. They leave messages and notes with my name on. I read them all.” Tickets for the garden party cost £78 per person. Call 0208 342 9953 or 07703 397270. More info at: www.oxfordmail.co.uk

Barry’s plans
The shows in Nashville started out as Barry simply making 2 guest appearances with Ricky Skaggs at his previously booked shows: the first night at The Ryman Auditorium, however at the last minute The Grand Old Opry asked if they could announce Barry and he and Ricky agreed that it was ok. That concerns Barry’s shows for the moment.
Barry and Linda have no current plans to start building a new house on their land in Hendersonville.
No firm plans for Barry and Linda to visit the UK the coming months however that is not to say they will not before the end of the year.
As for his future plans Barry is at the moment looking into one or two ideas for the coming year but nothing is confirmed at this point.

The Funeral of Robin Gibb
Robin lived in Thame for many years and died from kidney failure on May 20th after suffering from cancer and pneumonia. He was burried June 8th. Hundreds and hundreds of fans lined the streets of Thame as a lone bagpiper led a procession through the town. Robin and Dwina’s home, a converted 13th century monastery, is opposite the church but the carriage travelled along the market town’s high street first as it was among Robin’s last wishes that he could ‘say a final goodbye to fans and his home town’. The decorative carriage left from Priests End in the town at around 1.30 pm and travelled along the High Street to St Mary’s Church, where the ceremony took place. The service on June 8th. was just for family and close friends. A public memorial will be staged in London in September.

Don’t Cry For me, charity single for Bomber Command
Income from Don’t Cry Alone, performed by Robin Gibb with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, is to benefit the Bomber Command Memorial Charity. Robin has been leading the campaign for a permanent memorial the past five years, and the monument, which is in London’s Green Park, will be unveiled later this month. Don’t Cry Alone is one of the lead tracks from The Titanic Requiem album and Robin Gibb and RJ Gibb’s record royalties and Warner Music’s net profits from the sale of the download single are being donated to the Bomber Command Memorial with a minimum donation of 40 pence per single. The donation commences on Sunday June 3rd and ends on September 30th, 2012. The single is available (world-wide) to download from iTunes and all good digital retailers: iTunes UK: http://itunes.apple.com Amazon UK: www.amazon.co.uk Robin considered the building of the memorial as one of his greatest achievements, and his son RJ talks about the new charity single in this Sunday’s edition of UK newspaper The Sun. Jim Dooley, director of fundraiser for the Bomber Command Memorial Fund, said that Robin was a true friend and the most altruistic pop star he knew, and that the Bomber Command association is ever grateful to Robin’s family for enabling one of Robin’s most beautiful works to be used to their cause. Below is a segment from an interview from last January 14th, in which Robin talks about Don’t Cry Alone: “Don’t Cry Alone” was written and recorded in 2008 with Peter John Vettese, and I hadn’t been thinking of including it on The Titanic Requiem but the producers and the RPO wanted it to go on the album. What happened was that we were sitting with Cliff Masterson and someone from the Royal Philharmonic, looking for the right echo for Christmas Day, and I played Don’t Cry Alone to them. After we’d finished, they said: “that’s on the album right, because if not, it’s got to be!” So we kept the original vocal but added the orchestra and included it. The song fits in The Titanic Requiem, as it’s very much in the same vain as Christmas Day and Daybreak: the spirit that is gone is consoling the spirit that is alive. It’s the voice of the person that’s gone consoling the living, to “believe in me, and have faith in the future, cos I’ll always be with you”. That’s the angle of the song, and it’s a positive angle: “as the sun sets new suns are rising, as winter heralds spring’s horizon”. There’s an upside to it, it has that “it’s darkest before dawn” feeling.

Robin in the newspapers
Although no official family statements have been made lately British media keep reporting about Robin´s health etc. According to Express Robin´s wife Dwina has reported: he has undergone an eight-week course of gruelling treatment but he is getting stronger by the day and hopes to get back to his charity work within months. He is doing brilliantly. He feels good and he does not have any pain. He really is fantastic. He is determined to be at the unveiling of the Bomber Command Memorial in June and I am sure he will be there.
And according to spokesman and friend of the family Mick Garbutt: Robin is getting the best possible care and he is looking forward to attending the launch of his new classical composition in early April. He is receiving regular chemotherapy and fighting hard. He is also heading home to be with his family at every possible opportunity as that’s where he feels comfortable, but the reality is that he is very unwell.
