Finally we can announce and finally it’s official!!!
A Bee Gees stage musical in the works from Universal!
A Bee Gees stage musical is on the way, with Universal Pictures’ theater division, Universal Theatrical Group, pacting to develop a production based on the life story and hit tunes of the 1970s supergroup. Barry Gibb, the sole surviving member of the Bee Gees, will executive produce. UTG made the deal with Gibb, Yvonne Gibb (the wife of the late Maurice Gibb) and the estate of Robin Gibb for the rights to the band’s life story and music for a show that will chronicle the success of the three Gibb brothers, who as the Bee Gees shot to fame with tunes including “Stayin’ Alive,” “Too Much Heaven” and “Nights on Broadway.” The Bee Gees’ publishing and recorded music catalogs are already repped by Universal Music Publishing Group, Capitol Records and Universal Music Enterprises. Barry Gibb said in a statement “This is a wonderful opportunity for our family. I’m personally very excited to be a part of the creative process along with Yvonne and Dwina. It’s another adventure for us and a chance to throw the spotlight on all my brothers and finally the real story of us will be told. It’s an honor to be working alongside the people I most respect. I can’t wait to get started!” No timeline or final destination – Broadway or otherwise – has yet been set for the Bee Gees musical.

Some time ago GSI already heard that there were plans of moving a DRIF chairy event to another location. This also means there will be no Love and Hope Ball in February 2018 but instead on March 10th. at the Miami Casino: Love & Hope High Rollers Night. Slow version Stayin’Alive – a missed chance on the anniversary edition
Marion: Many fans had hoped the special slow Stayin Alive version to be part of the new edition of Saturday Night Fever. Many fans in general are waiting for much more of these special unreleased Gibb material to be released finally. Unfortunately although first planned to get at least the slow S.A version on the De Luxe set…..let’s say: due to some wrong communication, Capitol records did not include it although Blue Weaver has a good version ready to use and has much more material which could be very interesting for the fans to finally hear and to have. I have been in touch with him about this matter and that fact that it seems that Capitol, after not finding the right tape between the Warner items, didn’t get back to Blue for the good quality tape he has. Blue: ” I told Capitol I had a very good quality sounding track, better than some of the demos that went out. What I sent them was a brief section in MP3 format as I didn’t want to send anything that could be copied and put on the internet for any reason” We, the fans, keep waiting for another opportunity and keep hoping that someday we will be able to hear and have these special Bee Gees tape recordings etc. after all”. youtube.com Message to GSI from Peta Weber

hurricane Irma
Like mentioned yesterday on GSI facebookgroup Barry and family (including all pets) and Dick Ashby and his dog did leave Miami Beach like planned on Friday morning local time to go to Nashville. They are all okay and they will stay up north untill the condition in Miami is good enough to go back. GSI received countless questions about Yvonne and family and if they are safe too. As you know Sam and family live in Ohio and Yvonne is at the moment in the UK (London). Adam and family are in Boston, so all safe and okay, but worried of course about what is going to happen in Miami as this is the first time the Gibb Family have had to evacuate their homes in Miami because of a hurricane.

Goosebumps, emotions and feeling proud…… People in the UK or in other countries who could use a UK server saw the concert live on internet and lateron everyone who can had the BBC2 channel on their tv’s could see Barry and his Band there once more. This year Simply Red is the artist who will perform at the Symphonica in Rosso concerts in the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam. Many fans in the Netherlands and fans from many other countries want to try to get Barry Gibb to the Netherlands for one of the following editions of Symphonica in 2018 or 2019. GSI has had that thought for a while already and has contacted people in Barry’s team who worked for Symphonica in Rosso and so they know the concept very well. We are first busy to see if there is an interest by Mojo Concerts in The Netherlands, the organization of Symphonica and Barry’s booking agency and we have to see whether they can come up with an agreement. Only then plans can be made and preparations begin. For Symphonica In Rosso a long preparation time is required. If you want to sign a petition to show your interest in Barry Gibb coming to one of the following Symphonica editions and doing some live concerts again…. please do so as soon as possible !!

GSI received lots of questions concerning the TV special of April 16 and in what countries it will be aired next to the USA. GSI has checked and it turns out that the record company have made TV networks around the world aware of the tribute special in the hope that they will be interested and contact CBS TV in the USA re purchasing the rights for their market and show it sometime this year. Grammy´s Salute To The Bee Gees Music
February 14 on Valentine´s Day the special salute for The Bee Gees music was held at the Microsoft Theater in LA. During the event Barry received the Grammy’s Merit Award for The Bee Gees from John Travolta. The broadcast of the CBS Special is planned on Easter Sunday April 16 2017. The audience was asked not to take video, photo or sound recordings during the show and not publish it before the airing but… last night youtube and specially facebook were flooded with photos and videos of this special event already. GSI website will of course pay attention to this special Bee Gees salute too. There will be a report, photos etc. soon. Attention!!
Specially for fans who are interested in visiting the 2018 Love And Hope Ball. A while ago we mentioned that the next DRIF Love And Hope Ball would go to another location (Deezer Car Museum in North Miami ) as well as another date: not in February but March 10. Today GSI needs to inform you about the fact that the event might change again from date as well as location although I am not sure yet. I have been in touch already with people in Barry’s Team. There is a Love and Hope committee meeting set for the afternoon of January 4th. GSI hopes to have more news for you on January 5th. or if possible sometime sooner.

Book launch Chorlton – Manchester
December 4. 2017 was the official book launch of the new book about Chorlton. The area in Manchester where our Brothers Gibb grew up in the late fifties. It is book about the history of Chorlton from a very different angle, written by local historian Andrew Simpson, together with Manchester artist Peter Topping’s paintings. This 200 page, full colour title, tells the stories of the unusual, the odd, the bizarre, the eccentric and our much loved Chorlton personalities and quirky buildings. Dwina, widow of Robin Gibb, fought back tears as she read out the poem she penned for her husband’s funeral. Legendary singer Robin died in 2012 and at his funeral wife Dwina read out her poem My Songbird Has Flown. Now Mrs Gibb has read out her poetic tribute to her husband in Oxford at the launch of a new poetry anthology, published to raise funds for the charity Standing Voice, which supports people with albinism in East Africa. www.oxfordmail.co.uk

In order to accommodate everyone, it would be helpful to know how many of our members would be able and available to travel to Miami, Florida to celebrate Andy’s 60th Birthday on March 5th, 2018. I would like to structure a week long celebration of Andy’s life, including his 60th Birthday on March 5th and the 30th Anniversary of his passing on March 10th. Please take time to carefully consider this request. Your responses will determine the venues and events. Give thought to your response, please do not say you will be there, if you know you cannot attend. My dream is to bring to fruition an “Andy Experience,” worthy of the man and those who love him…

Some updates from The Gibb Family.
Concerning Barry’s plans for the coming months / year: There are various ideas under discussion for that period but there is nothing firm to tell more about at this moment yet. We surely keep you posted and hope to have more info soon. Concerning The Bee Gees catalogue: Capitol Records are currently looking at all the catalogue material with a view to re-releasing the older albums and to include some vinyl releases too. They are also looking for potential bonus tracks. Stay tuned! Concerning the Andy music Peta (Andy’s daughter) told me first of all to say hello to all of you. She wished the fans who went to the Dutch meeting last weekend a very nice day. Her family is at the moment quite busy with all the usual kind of things. Just work, study, school and sport for the boys Flyn and Darby. And they are enjoying the new cat which specially made the boys very happy Peta told me, as the cat loves to sleep in the beds of the boys!!. She is very much looking forward to their big trip to Europe early next year and is planning for that at the moment. She also mentions to please pass on her ‘Thank You’ to all fans for the suport of the Gibb Collective. Concerning the Andy celebrations in Miami, March 2018 Dick Ashby is planning to approach the county administration of Miami Beach soon for planning the Andy memorial etc. There are several plans for March 5th. and during the week there probably are some special things organized for fans. (thanks also Deborah and Tesy). More about that when details become known!! Last but not least news from Gibb Collective which Sam told me some days ago. She also wished all fans a nice meeting in Holland and told me that next year Laz and she will start working again on a new album and…. She and Spencer have spoken about working and writing together too!! So really looking forward to that she mentioned to me.

Musical performances supporting the event will be equally star studded with confirmed artists The Trusted, Belle Roscoe, Analiza Ching and The Gibb collective – a family tribute to the Bee Gees formed last year by Maurice Gibb’s daughter Samantha. Ceremony Also expect a special performance by Barry Gibb at Sunday’s award ceremony.
Marion: ‘I have checked to be sure but… Barry has never been approached by the Romford Film Festival and cannot not be in UK this weekend so he is unable to attend /perform at the ‘Rommy’ awards ceremony on Sunday. Concerning Gibb Collective: Samantha Gibb just told me: ‘Spencer and I were asked to perform at the Festival but, unfortunately we are not able to be in London to attend.’

Update from Gibb Family!!
Letter to Marion/GSI
I received latest info this morning about the Gibb Family and the situation with regard to hurricane Irma. ‘Hi Marion, The Gibb families did evacuate their homes once before but only travelled inland for ‘Hurricane Andrew’ however this was the first time they decided to leave Florida. The electricity / power has now come back on in South Florida and the family are returning to Miami this weekend. Although there were trees down, street flooding and everywhere was a total mess, none of the Gibb Family homes sustained any serious structural damage . The whole evacuation process was extremely stressful and although they had an enjoyable time in Nashville under the circumstances, it was very difficult for them to relax and not to worry about their friends who did not leave and whether they would have homes to return to after ‘Hurricane Irma’. The Gibb family would like to thank the overwhelming number of people who reached out with well wishes and messages of concern, it was very comforting during their ordeal.’

My Dear Lifelong Fans of our beloved Andy GIBB, I decided to embark on this adventure because some years ago Andy GIBB touched my heart in a very special way. Since then, I deeply feel the desire that the memory of this young artist, whose smile and talent are indelibly imprinted in the memory of innumerable fans, is honored in the most beautiful way. The things that made Andy unique were out of the simple performance, which always excelled, and came straight to the people’s heart because they had to do with the qualities that make a human being really special: I refer to respect, altruism, sincerity, good manners and, special note, the sense of humor. Andy GIBB was all this and anyone who had the privilege of meeting him knows it perfectly. That’s why I like to say that, if there was Andy, the world would be a pretty better place! In March 2018 we celebrate 30 years since the premature death of Andy GIBB: as I’ve written, he will be always remembered, not only as a talented and charismatic performer, but as a beloved family member and a special friend who gave so much of himself to others, especially as an honorary member of the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation in Miami. Andy, born in England and raised in Australia, loved Miami and the ocean so much and fans of all over the world still miss him, not only for his string of multi-platinum albums, for his two Grammy Award nominations and for his unforgettable Broadway debut, but, as Robin GIBB said, “especially for his capacity to reach the hearts of the people, because it isn’t just about the sound or the song, but the human connection”.

We as the United Fans of Andy Gibb’s memory want to show our “Everlasting Love” for Andy by declaring our desire to see his memory memoralized in his adopted city of Miami Beach, Florida. Andy was always recognized as a Son of Miami, or should we say “the Sun of Miami”. His devoted love of the water and his love of yachtsmanship with the MOTOR YACHT MARIE, along with his Family of Brothers and parents and close friends, were his foundation for his creativity and life long dreams. Andy would be at home in Miami today had he not been called heavenly homeward.
So we’re going to ask the City of Miami to celebrate Andy GIBBS great talent, generosity, kindness, huge contribution by allowing the naming of a street and the affixing of a monument to be enjoyed by visitors from all over the world. Every year so many people come to Miami to visit the places regularly frequented by Andy GIBB and that’s why countless fans want, with all their heart, that Miami, the city that Andy loved so deeply, devotes to him a road or that affords a monument to honor the memory of this extraordinary artist. Let’s remember that, already in March 1989, the Miami mayor unveiled “Andy Gibb Drive”, but, after a very short time, maybe it was dropped due to a rezoning of the property and was never revisited. Today (June 30. 2017) Barry and Linda visited the event again at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane, London. Last year Barry received the award and this year Dame Shirley Bassey will be presented with the O2 Silver Clef Award and Phil Collins will receive the Icon Award. The Nordoff Robins O2 Silver Clef Awards, which has been running for 42 years, has raised nearly £10 million to fund the Nordoff Robins charity, who provide music therapy for people of all ages.

Barry wants to work with both Gallagher brothers. The Oasis duo are vocal fans of the Bee Gees legend – and Barry is already used to sibling rivalries. He said at the Silver Clef awards: “I know about brothers. I would love to work with Noel, he’s only down the street”. “I love him and love them together. I love Oasis”. “And of course I would work for Liam, but you have to be asked.” In the meantime Bazza wants to return to his disco roots: “I want to make a really high energy album, a dance album.” “I’d like to work with Nile Rodgers, I think that would be a wonderful experience.” Sounds like Good Times ahead. Barry: ‘Ed Sheeran; he has a lot of miles ahead of him, and you know Rita Ora and Ariana – she’s gonna have a great future. ‘I am a female singer fan. I am inclined towards female singers.’
When asked about reports that Adele would no longer be touring he said it was unlikely Adele would ever turn her back on music. ‘I didn’t know that Adele wasn’t going to be touring anymore but she’s given us some wonderful records and I suspect she will continue to do that.’
Barry also spoke of his ‘pinch me’ moment playing Glastonbury festival and revealed how he coped on stage without his brothers Robin and Maurice. ‘Always the same,’ he explained. ‘I always feel like they’re there and how else can you live, you’ve got to keep moving and I do the songs, but I only sing the songs that I sang, I never encroach on Robin’s.’

* Many fans have asked GSI if Barry will also sing new work during his Glastonbury performance but following the tradition for The Legend Slot at Glastonbury GSI heard today that Barry and his band will be playing a hits set.
* Regarding fan questions to GSI about other activities during Barry’s stay in the UK for Glastonbury…….
None have been determined yet but their might be some activities during his stay in Europe.
* Regarding the release of the Gibb Collective Album GSI was told that Barry has been in touch with Sam and spoke with her and complimented her and the others with the album.

REVIEW: Particularly stunning is the title track, “Please Don’t Turn Out the Lights,” which features the eldest of each of the brothers’ kids working together in perfect harmony. Spencer Gibb’s take on “Don’t Fall in Love With Me,” first released by the Bee Gees in 1981, is another standout. His is a folk-inspired interpretation, but doesn’t deviate too far from the foundation of the original version. “In the Morning,” covered by Samantha and Adam Gibb and Peta Gibb’s “Fool For a Night” are ambitious covers of great originals. “In the Morning” emphasizes the songwriting by shifting into a minimalist electronica melody. Peta turns Andy Gibb’s campy 1978 single into a slinky, almost haunting club track. * Many questions arrived at GSI about the Gibb Collective album: in what form or forms will it be released. I asked the creators and they answered: ‘Definitely digital, possibly cd, most definitely vinyl!’

Barry and Linda were sitting front row watching this years’ Grammy’s. During the event there was a tribute to the Saturday Night Fever music of The Bee Gees. A number of American artists (Demi Lovato, Andra Day, Tori Kelly, and Little Big Town) performed a medley of SNF songs (Stayin’ Alive, Tragedy, How Deep Is Your Love, Night Fever) and Barry and Linda were singing and clapping along giving the artists on stage a standing ovation afterwards. So sweet to see Barry sing along on his own songs!!

After the show there was also a huge after party fora bout 5000 guests. The special Grammy Bee Gees Salute, a tribute to The Bee Gees music will be held on February 14th. Tavares will be performing on the CBS TV Special “Stayin Alive..A Grammy Salute to the music of The Bee Gees”… Tavares will perform “More Than A Woman” with R&B star Jason Derulo. Other performers on the show include Barry Gibb, Celine Dion, John Legend, Keith Urban, Little Big Town, The Weekend, Demi Lovato And Nick Jonas and many more!…. Gibb Children honour The Gibb Legacy with special album
The plan: to honor their Legacy With a Bee Gees Tribute Album. The children of all four Brothers Gibb!! will record an album of classic songs for release in Spring 2017!! The rich musical legacy of the Bee Gees and their brother Andy Gibb continues to entertain millions of fans across the globe, and today the next generation of Gibbs announced a project honoring their music with new interpretations of classic songs. Spearheaded by Maurice’s daughter Samantha and producer Lazaro Rodriguez, the project features contributions from ten different members of the family including children of all four brothers – Maurice, Robin, Andy, and Barry, who released his third solo album this year. Sparked by Samantha and Lazaro creating one Bee Gees cover on their own, and long awaiting the right time to do a tribute, they realized the musical potential here and that it was time to do something more. Samantha reached out to her siblings and cousins and very quickly they all agreed to take part. “Everyone wanted to be involved. We are all true fans of their [Bee Gees] music and there is a connection for us, family,” says Samantha.
