written by Yvonne Maxwell ( Thame Museum)
This October, Thame is gearing up to welcome an influx of visitors as Thame Museum hosts another special weekend for Robin Gibb fans from all over the world, and you are invited! Save the dates : Friday 4th – Sunday 6th October.
The former BeeGee lived in Thame from 1985 until his death in 2012 and is buried in the Churchyard opposite his home. Each year hundreds of fans visit Robin’s final resting place and enjoy the permanent Robin Gibb Exhibition in Thame Museum. Featuring memorabilia, awards, photographs and video generously loaned to the museum by Robin’s widow, Dwina Gibb, the exhibition is well worth a visit. The museum will be open throughout the weekend to allow fans to browse in between enjoying the various events.
We ease ourselves into the weekend on Friday evening, with a BeeGees themed wine-tasting evening in the Museum. Hosted by well-known vintner James Ellis, we will savour some great wines in a relaxed event themed around BeeGees music.
The weekend ends on Sunday evening with a screening of the classic film ‘Saturday Night Fever’ at the Players Theatre Thame. Get out your 70’s gear and relive those days.
Saturday evening is the special gala event. A Concert by Candlelight, in St Mary’s Church, Thame. Dwina Gibb presents an evening of poetry and prose, with beautiful harp accompaniment by the renowned, award-winning harpist Becki Luff.
Dwina is an accomplished artist, author, poet, playwright and Druid, and a patron of Thame Museum. Fascinated by Irish history and mythology, she has published three volumes of poetry, is an author of two novels and true to her Irish routes, a wonderful raconteur.
Make a weekend of it and come and join in the fun.
