GSI – Miami Beach event, April 2025.

On April 3, 2025 the re-opening of the Maurice Gibb Memorial Park took place and a group of GSI-Bee Gees club members gathered in Miami Beach and had a chance to enjoy 2 very special fan days.

April 2

On the day before the park opening the GSI fans first enjoyed  a magnificent 2 and a half hours tour of Criteria Recording Studios.  GSI fan member: Samii, who has worked with the Gibbs in the Miami studios arranged this for the fans.

Trevor Fletcher of the Criteria studios gave them an extensive tour and shared a lot of the rich history of this studio that forms so much of the music we all as fans have listened to over the decades.

At the end of the day the group went for a lovely dinner to Smith & Wollensky on the waterfront where the cruise ships go by as they leave the Port of Miami and where recently Mike and Christine Gibb celebrated their wedding.

The next day started for the GSI fan group with going to see what once was Middle Ear Studios.  The building is now occupied by Touch of Class Paint and Body Shop. Rene Dominguez the Shop Manager and Alex, who recently came to America from France, were very kind to let them come in and walk thru the upstairs and main floor.

They shared with the fans the history they were aware of and what they’ve done to the building.

Samii again was so very helpful in telling us about where things were located as of course she knows that studio as well!  The recording studio was on the main Floor. Upstairs, where the GSI group photo shot is taken,  is where the offices and lounge was. And also where all the awards were hung on the walls. A cool thing about Rene is, many many years ago, he worked just down the street from Middle Ear and he detailed the cars for Barry, Maurice and Robin!

In the afternoon the GSI fan group went to the park for the Grand Re-opening of the Maurice Gibb Memorial Park.

It was amazing, incredible, moving and one of those things, you had to be there to experience the impact the said.

The memorial park was first opened 18 years ago on March 4, 2007.

The park is  located at 18 Street and Purdue Avenue, and features two upgraded scenic lookout areas over Biscayne Bay, an inviting green space, living shoreline and brand new music-themed playground. The project was funded by the 2018 voter-approved General Obligation Bond.

The grand re-  opening ceremony started around  5:30pm.

There were several speakers of course but

specially the speech of Adam Gibb., son of Maurice and Yvonne Gibb,  was touching and the event wouldn’t have been complete without music! Special thanks to the Miami Beach Senior High School Rock Ensemble for their incredible performance.

Hand in hand the future is here

Now that we crossed the bridge of tears

Finding truth and facing fears

We can walk on, the road is clear
