Dwina Gibb about memories of her wedding day

“Time goes on and never stands still, but some memories live forever in our hearts.
Our wedding day was special to us with no fuss and very little planning. A year and a day later, on our anniversary, we had a huge gypsy party with relatives and friends.
The only other couple at the marriage was my cousin Ken and his wife Jane as witnesses. I think the registrar and her assistant were shocked that we were alone, thinking it was going to be a large affair, having prepared a room with lots of chairs. We even forgot about rings and exchanged rings we had already bought for each other, hurriedly placing them on the little velvet cushion.
Robin’s hair was still wet from his shower, and he was wearing one of my jumpers. I had a huge butterfly print on mine. We were simply in love, having fun, and afterwards we whizzed off to Wokey Hole and Wells for a couple of days on our honeymoon.
We made handmade paper at a paper mill, explored the caves, and then travelled to the beautiful Cheddar Gorge. Robin was told he was standing on the wrong side because he had to keep his sword arm free!
We had no photographer, only Ken taking photos on a little camera, the ones you see here. We only stayed away for a couple of days because we had to get back to RJ, who was being looked after by Nancy at home.
We loved every moment of the journey, driving through England, stopping at Stonehenge and Woodhenge on our way back. It was incredibly romantic. We both loved Wells and its beautiful Cathedral.
There was something so intimate and personal about the day. We didn’t need a grand show—we simply had each other and did it our way.
We shared many years of happiness and togetherness, even through times of sorrow and tragedy.
Love never dies.
