MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — Family and friends gathered in Miami Beach to remember Maurice Gibb on Wednesday.
Gibb’s private funeral was held at Riverside Funeral Chapel at noon. Many people attended, including Gibb’s twin brother Robin and his other brother, Barry. Former Sony Music chairman and Mariah Carey’s ex-husband Tommy Mottola and actor Henry Winkler were among those attending. Singer Michael Jackson was seen leaving the chapel with Maurice’s brother Barry.
Maurice Gibb, 53, was a longtime South Florida resident, and was an active part of the community for more than 20 years.
Some fans showed up outside the funeral home to mourn their loss.
“I just wanted to come by — see what was going on and thank him for the music,” said Bee Gee fan Edward Horzely.
Gibb suffered cardiac arrest shortly before undergoing emergency surgery for a blocked intestine Thursday.
The Bee Gees star passed away at Mount Sinai Medical Center on Sunday. His brothers Barry and Robin said that they want a full investigation of Maurice’s care and death at Mount Sinai. The hospital is reportedly helping with the investigation.
Gibb is survived by his wife more than 20 years, Yvonne, and two children.
